Surrounding the Santas-Workshop 2009 event.
Firstly, this is a journal to clear up some issues I feel need to be addressed to the wider community so it's leaving my journal space and being posted here. This is `
ctJemm writing, and I haven't reviewed this journal with anyone before posting (all the people who I trust to assist me in review are not around at the moment) so forgive me if my tone expresses a less than joyful countenance.
First some unfortunate news:This year, =
ravenskar and myself were, weeks ago, making plans to revive this project's activity once more, however some inquiries were sent out to higher-ups on this site for assistance in the account's structure to make it easier in running this year, and because of their tight schedules they were unable to reply in a timely manner. And because of our schedule (raven is in the middle of exams; I work 14 hours daily this year)
we are currently unable to run a Santa's Workshop 2009 event. In addition, there has been some confusion surrounding this as I'm sure some of the elves from last year have signed up to a new account under the impression that it's being run by the same people but just moved.
Right as my words say: this is not true. Which leads me to my next point, and the purpose of this journal:
There seems to have been a duplicate of this account, ~
santas-workshop09 around these parts and you can see that the account seems to be an identical copy of our project, down to its journals and news articles, save a small anomaly in the username and its avatar. It is even for some reason referred to as the "Second Annual Santa's Workshop" which is another falsity I would like to dismiss.
is not the second annual
; as that particular project is not in any way, shape, or form a derivative, affiliate or revival of this project.
That project is made by a separate person we do not know of and run by someone who has not discussed anything with us.
The second annual Santa's Workshop will be hosted in 2010 only, when hopefully, a much needed transformation is applied to this group (!!). None of the project managers were contacted or even credited for the content they reproduced as their own and as you can understand I'm sure, it leaves us in not the best of spirits, since we did put over 5 months' work into the project's refinement. We understand the need to keep the project going, but blatant plagiarism of our creations is simply not welcome with open arms. I am sure you can understand our concern for this issue.
That being said, I must state that we do indeed appreciate their desire to keep the gift of giving going on, as that is a very important sort of act that has been harbored on deviantART, and it brings out a fresh new nature in the members of this site. That feeling is always needed, and I am pleased to know that there are other people who desire the joy of our fellow deviants besides ourselves. So elves, if you want to join that project this year, please be our guests, we encourage you to do so. This journal is simply made to clarify any confusion where you may mistake that project for this project because of its look and posted content. The founder of this project is me, I have no public Christmas projects going on this year

All I want is for you to be informed of the situation and the difference between both accounts until the account confusion can be properly dealt with.
I think I've written quite enough on the subject now so I'll just leave you with my wishes for the best Christmas of your life yet.

Enjoy it, loved ones!

You could have at the very least noted us, or contacted us otherwise, asking permission -- especially since we had been planning on reviving the event ourselves. But to create a seamless copy of Santa's Workshop (name and all) without even asking the founder's consent? And then to go ahead and copy text right from SW's very own journals and use them as your own, without credit?
I hope you understand our concern. If SW was your brainchild, I do not think you would appreciate a duplicate popping up without a word. I respectfully request that you do not call it the "second annual" Santa's Workshop event as yours is not a derivative of this one, and it would be unfair to imply otherwise. I think you should also show common courtesy and explain that the structure, function and concept of your workshop was mirrored from this one.

ego si relapsus resurgo.
But hear me out. One, I really love this idea and the message it puts out. This is the same thing I do at school but this is my first time trying to organize this type of event on DA and had no idea how to start. Mimicry is not the highest form of flattery but instead it's opposite but I truly felt you had a wonderful foundation and agree that this SHOULD be the minimum standard for running this sort event.
I REALLY was not planning on using your name at all but it is the most fitting and I guess the time constraint and my desire for the club to be up and running ASAP got to me but please understand, I mean absolutely no ill-will.
